HF4U – MediaCityUK

Graduation from HF4U - MediaCityUKHF4U has teamed up with the Public Sector Partners programme of MediaCityUK (whose partners are Salford City Council, Central Salford URC and NWDA) to offer the programme to every Year 5 class in Salford.  HF4U – MediaCityUK is specifically tailored to raising not only aspiration but also awareness of the opportunities within the Creative and Media industries. 

Salford University are committed to offering each Year 5 pupil in Salford a chance to visit the University. While on site the children will take part in a campus investigation where student ambassadors lead small groups around their campus, setting problems and puzzles to raise awareness of student life at Salford. The other part of the visit is a media-focused lesson. This lesson was designed between the HF4U staff and the faculty of Media. The feedback from these days has been overwhelmingly positive with most of the children rating this day as outstanding!

The world of work visit is a fantastic opportunity for the Year 5 pupils. At each event, experts from the North of England gather together to give the children mini master-classes in the creative industry.

MediaCityUK

MediaCityUK is an exciting new home for creative, digital and media businesses, currently being built at Salford Quays, Greater Manchester.

Phase 1 is currently under construction and is due to open in summer 2011. The anchor tenant at the site is the BBC who are moving five departments up from London: BBC Children’s, BBC Sport, Radio 5 Live, Formal Learning and Future Media and Technology. They will be joined at the new site by staff from the current BBC Manchester site and the BBC Philharmonic who will have their own dedicated audio studio on site. Over 2500 staff will be based at MediaCityUK by 2011.

Joining the BBC is the University of Salford, who will occupy a new 100,000 sq ft campus for 700 students and staff, with a focus on post-graduate and research studies.

The Public Sector Partners programme has been set up to ensure that MediaCityUK brings real, long-lasting benefits to the local community and the wider Northwest region. Its projects include transport links, education, skills and training programmes, access to jobs for local people, visitor destination work and schools activities programmes to name but a few.
